Total Hip Arthroplasty And Hip Resurfacing Operation: Are They The Same?

The ASR XL Acetebular Hip System and ASR Hip Resurfacing System are two of the hip implants manufactured by the DePuy Orthopaedics, the subsidiary of the pharmaceutical company Johnson & Johnson. Complaints were raised regarding these hip replacement products which allegedly inflicts harm to users. The cost garnered from the compensation granted to the affected individuals due to the DePuy hip replacement recall issued caused a decrease in Johnson & Johnson’s income. Nevertheless, let us tackle on the difference between the two operation which utilizes the two said hip implants. Hip replacement surgeries can actually be a total hip replacement (THR) or a hip resurfacing operation.

Those who are afflicted with bone anomaly such as osteoarthritis would often experience worsening of the hip bone joint, which is also known as the acetabulofemoral joint (AF joint), if the condition is left untreated or if unsuccessful medical managements were employed. If the condition proved to be irreparable, a hip replacement intervention is indicated. A Total Hip Replacement (THR) operation (also known as a Total Hip Arthroplasty) is the hip operation usually utilized. In this hip management, the irreversibly damaged hip joint is replaced by a hip replacement device. The operation usually involves the removal of the acetabulum and the femoral head which is then replaced with an artificial hip prosthesis that functions like the acetabulofemoral ball-and-socket joint. There is also an operation known as partial hip replacement or hemiarthroplasty wherein only the femoral head is removed and replaced.

A Hip Resurfacing Operation, on the other hand, is actually a divergent intervention for total hip replacement operation. In a hip resurfacing method, the part of the hip bone joint to be removed and replaced is only minimal. The only area which is manipulated during the surgery is the femoral head which is replaced by a hip prosthesis made of cobalt-chrome metal, has a mushroom shape and is hollow. When the patient moves, the activity induces the secretion of synovial fluid which naturally coats the surface of the metal cup and lubricates it for smoother movement of the joint.

Secure a skilled surgeon who will implement a successful operation if you want to try to get under the knife for hip injury management. Choosing the most efficient and safest hip implant is also important. With the issuance of the DePuy hip recall, one can expel a huge sigh of relief. But when a recall is not enough for the damage endured by afflicted individuals, filing a DePuy hip replacement lawsuit can be done. For more information about the recall and lawsuits, visit related sites available.

Is it normal to get muscle twitching after a total hip replacement?

I had a hip replaced just over a week ago. I am experiencing muscle twitches in my neck, arms, hands and the leg and foot of the leg that has NOT had the replacement, and this is interferring with my sleep. (BTW These are not the same as the painful muscle spasms that I get on the operated hip leg.) Are these twitches normal? Do they go away? Will a body massage help to stop them? Thanks.

I’ve had both hips replaced. I never experienced anything like the “twitches” you describe but I did ask for a muscle relaxant a day or so after my first replacement. My muscles kept tensing up for some odd reason. The drug prescribed was Flexeril. Suggest you ask your doctor about this. S/he may prescribe something to either relax you or help you sleep. I do recall that I had a terrible time sleeping for several weeks after surgery, mostly because of the fact that I was asked to sleep on my back and I’d get back aches because of it since I’m normally a side sleeper.

artificial hip replacement requiring leg amputation if bone broken has anyone heard of this?

my partner has had a hip replacement he’s had it for about 8 years or so anyway his latest check up revealed the outer bone of the leg to be very thin and might need revision surgery it was followed up with a CT scan of which he was told he’s ok for another next 6 months now I’m being told (by his mum who spoke to his doctor) that if he damages his hip his leg is going to be amputated? has anyone ever heard of a orthopedic surgeon going to this extreme? he is prone to bone death because of alcoholism if that helps
the doctor has apparently said they don’t know what they are dealing with re: the bone being thin and if it stasts to hurt they lop the leg off
the doctor has apparently said they don’t know what they are dealing with re: the bone being thin and if it starts to hurt they lop the leg off

Perhaps you and your partner should get your information directly from the doctor instead of through his mother. Bone “death” is called osteonecrosis. And, yes, alcoholism is one cause of osteonecrosis. If he has revision surgery, they would likely remove the old prosthesis and replace it with a new one. They would probably not amputate his leg.
CONSULT THE DOCTOR.

Ceramic Hip Replacement?

I am interested in talking with anyone who has had a ceramic hip replacement. I have now had FOUR ceramic hip replacements…and it was supposed to last a lifetime! My concerns are these: I still have severe pain, intermittently, in my lower thigh where to prosthesis and the real bone are joined; I still have shooting pains down my leg from time to time; and many more. Please join my blog and discuss any concerns you may have.

You don’t mention how long ago you had your last surgery nor have you told us the reasons that you have had to have the hip[s] revised (was it repeated dislocation? infection? aseptic loosening? shattered ceramic??)
The ceramic material is used only for the bearing, not the shaft (stem) which is made from metal, possibly titanium. The pain that you describe could be end-of-stem pain if the stem is porous coated and is uncemented (sometimes referred to as bone-ingrowth). This pain can occur as long as a year after surgery as the bone grows into the prosthesis and, while it isn’t unusual for this type of pain to occur, that is one of the disadvantages of uncemented stems. I offer this link on the subject from a website developed by an ortho surgeon as a service to patients.

(Note in the above link what he says about end-of-stem pain)

This may also interest you on the subject of ceramic bearings:

There is much other good, reliable, authoritative information on all aspects of hip replacements at this website. I recommend it.

HELP??

Titania was the name of a character in William Shakespeare’s play A Midsummer Night’s Dream. In Shakespeare’s play, she is the queen of the fairies.

Perhaps a gay superhero.

In Greek mythology, the Titans were a race of powerful deities that ruled during the legendary Golden Age.The Titans were associated with various primal concepts, some of which are simply extrapolated from their names: ocean and fruitful earth, sun and moon, memory and natural law.

Super hero theme song. To be played as he rushes to fight injustice and hate crimes.
“We are the Titans, the mighty, mighty titans.
Everywhere we go-o people wanna kno-ow,
Who we a-are, so we tell them.

Titanium dioxide is the most widely used white pigment because of its brightness and very high refractive index.
Your super-hero should have a white suit.

pain after a revision hip replacement?

i had a revision hip replacement in january was doing fine and then about six weks ago started to get pain on side of my leg just below ending of scar . thought it might be muscle pain but its getting worse would physio help . my xrays came back normal acouple of weeks before pain started i am worried sick that it might be loosening again. as anyone had simillar experiences

If I were you, I’d make another appointment with the surgeon and have it checked out. It may be nothing serious. Wouldn’t you feel better knowing that for sure? In addition, if another x-ray or physical therapy or pain meds are indicated, you could get the Rx for those at the same doctor appointment.

demos always talk about englands healthcare system ,here aree some facts tell me how good it sounds and what?

what you think of it .demos please respond.
hip replacement waiting time11 months
knee Replacement 12 months
hernia 5 months
in the usa now prostate cancer surgery survivors after 5
years is 100%
england its 77%
o by the way the british health care system has 1.4 million employees less than half are doctors ,nurses tecs etc the majority over 50% are the administrators who manage the system and decide who gets what when.
sorry pam i got these facts from a tv show where a english politican quoated these facts ,its typical of young demos to dispute the truth im sorry your so bitter with reality.

oh isn;t that just the greatest? being that no one knows what they are doing the wait will probably be so long that they will no longer just need the knee replacement or the hip replacement they will need everything replaced so you know what that means. the red pill.
