Pregnancy Pillows: What They Are & How To Use Them

The term pregnancy pillow can be used to describe a number of shapes and styles of pillows or sponge-like supports used by pregnant women during their pregnancy. They are even referred to as maternity pillows in some cases.

They can be as simple as a spongy wedge or a sausage shaped tube pillow as long as one’s body, or shaped like an “L,” “C,” or even “J,” depending on individual circumstances and preferences.  But whichever type of pregnancy pillow a mother-to-be selects, a pregnancy pillow is a great tool for making it easier to adjust to one’s changing body during this exciting time.

Pregnancy pillows help you sleep on your side during pregnancy

During pregnancy, sleeping on one’s stomach becomes impossible, and sleeping on one’s back is generally not recommended for the health of the baby, as it can restrict oxygen flow and create other potential problems. Sleeping on the left side is the suggested position by most doctors.

A few notes to be aware of:

  • This may be a new position for a mother-to-be, and a pregnancy pillow can help the woman in place while she sleeps by serving as a gentle barrier around her body.
  • Sleeping on one’s side can be painful to the hips and pelvis, especially if this is a new sleeping position. Pregnancy pillows provide support to the back, legs, and abdomen in a way that relieves this pressure and makes sleeping on one’s side as comfortable as possible.

Pregnancy pillows help relieve aches and pains

Many women suffer from a range of aches and pains during pregnancy as their body adjusts to the changes and additional weight.  Unfortunately many of these issues seem worse at night which may prevent women from getting the rest they need during pregnancy.

  • Pregnancy pillows are a great way to relieve back pain. Many women suffer from back pain during pregnancy as a result of the 25 to 55 pound weight gain; pregnancy pillows offer a comfortable position that allows those tense back muscles to relax, alleviating the pain immediately and lessening future pain.
  • Muscle aches and pains are also common in areas other than the back, as the growing baby puts more pressure on the mother’s organs and the additional weight strains her joints. Sleeping on a pregnancy pillow or even relaxing with one when watching television or reading can relieve the pressure felt by the body and ease the pain.

I’m 15, and want a tattoo? HELP!?

My mom letting me get a tattoo = NO WAY
I have my septum pierced, tragus, ears gauges, and spider bites,
and I can tolerate pain nicely.
But I really want a chest piece done, NOTHING BIG, just a clean quote across my chest maybe. Or something I drew, placed on my hip.

But,

Im to young,

Would anyone even touch me without a signed guardian?

If you go to a popular tattoo parlor then no way are you getting a tattoo without a parent, or just forge your moms signature

Extreme Hip Pain In Pregnancy

Monday, September 29th, 2008

35 weeks pregnant … asked this already, I have an answer?

I woke up this morning with extreme pain in both legs … my hips to toe … I almost feel like cramps in legs … and I do not know what that means. Anyone else ever experience? Is there anything I should worry? This is my pregnancy in April, I did never felt before. The pain disappeared in about an hour after I woke up. Oh, there was no swelling or anything … I have had the normal slight swelling of the feet, but nothing more.

I had this very bad with my second pregnancy. He is the baby pressing This is called sciatica (pronounced Siy-to-IC) of the nerve. Some people call siatica. This is what it is. There is nothing to worry. Try a different position from the bottom when it happens. Also try to straighten and bend your legs. Repeat over and over again and can be useful. It should disappear after having the baby. Again, this is nothing to worry about. I would like Tell your doctor if, because you may have good ideas for releaving pain.

Rolfing in Fort Worth-dallas-bunions, Knee, and Hip Pain

The first session is a beautiful way to introduce the work to the body. It cultivates a deeper awareness of what is really happening, it is a place of adaptability & inquiry. An awareness of more support is palpable going into the second session. The coded description of the work is Second hour: support/palintonicity (2-3-4) bilateral support. “The feet and lower legs are critical; you must have support for the parts above. Even more critical is the ankle and the way those joints fit into each other.”-IPR.

Assess lower legs & the arches of the feet. The main goals are to create support for the pelvis with structures above it and lengthening the back. To create support we look at the spring of the arches in the foot and how the weight is transmitted through the foot. Rotations in talus & calcaneous balance or inhibit the structure from aligning based on rotation/counter rotations and horizontal hinges at knees, ankles, and toes. Counter rotations between agreeable segments of the carpal or metacarpal bones deepens an imbalance in the body above. Work towards resolving asymmetries in low leg & knee.

After working plantar fascia, and retinaculum, test how the fibula responds in dorsiflexion via interosseus membrane, working to resolve rotations & counter rotations between segments of the feet and low legs. Free up restricted drifts in the tissue so that the legs & feet can differentiate & integrate. Dr. Rolf called this the body geometry or the natural organizing effect based upon the structures balance & alignment in the vertical gravitational field.

The back needs lengthening and releasing of the erectors of the back, moving up & in at the wide portions & down & away where the tissue is narrow. Work with flat spots & side bends With their associated rotations to integrate the support and palintonicity above the supported pelvis. It’s great for the client to connect through the feet while seated, exploring the relationship of the eye of the foot.

An exploration with down/up is always a profitable movement in the second session resourcing. Rolf yoga works well with integrating the second hour work. This exercise mimic’s the movement of the foot in gait. For the neck, work the cervical tissue in the direction of correction. Slow melting amounts of pressure can be given with the client seated and work with elbows into the clients traps. With client supine, place fingers in sub-occipitals, lengthening into posterior portion. If there is time some standing tracking before finishing is great. Pelvic lift or pull should be considered when ending.

The Certified Rolfing Ten Series has the potential to reduce pain and release tension in the connective and myofascial tissue of the body associated with TMJ, CTS, RLS, Fibromyalgia, Sciatica, Fascitis, Bunions, Scoliosis, and Cerebral Palsy. Poor posture is associated with fascial asymmetries that can cause foot, leg, knee, hip, back, shoulder, neck, arm, hand, and head pain; integration therapy is necessary. Orthopedic, Chiropractic, Physical, and Massage Therapist recognize Certified Rolfing and Rolf Movement as premium pain management utilizing Structural, Functional, and Postural Integration. I am a Certified Rolfer with advanced trainings in spinal and biomechanics and have a Rolfing Practice in the Museum District of Fort Worth, TX. Before and after photo’s documenting some of my clients proven results available only on my website.

hip pain location
My left hip is killing me…help?

I started doing crossfit and playing a good amount of bball lately. I’ve deloped this real stinging sharp pain on
Like the front of my left hip. It’s wierd though it’s in the I side like right where my leg attaches. But it’s not like a muscle and when I try to poke to find the exact location I feel nothing. I feel it the most when I like pivot or swing side to side. Also real painful just to lift my leg up whilE sitting down but I oy when I first lift it. Anyone knows what it is??? Never really felt this pain.

Hmm…Im not 100% sure because I am not a doctor, you should probably get an X-Ray and an MRI possibly.

I’d say you probably might of hurt your Acetabulum, this is where your Femur head connects to the socket on the side of your hip.

How old are you too? Does it hurt just to walk sometimes too or trying to stand back up? If so, I’d say you probably need to get your Articular cartilage in your hip looked at.
