I am already very active but have about 14lbs to lose, I workout alot but have a wedding to go to in a few weeks and have a lovely dress to wear except it won’t do up on the side by about 3 inches!! Please help, serious exercisers might be able to point me in the right direction – here is my regime:
Monday: Legs, Bums & Tums 45 mins + 1 hour of cardio
Tuesday: Intermediate Pilates 55 mins
Wednesday: Body jam 1 hour (dance class) + advanced spinning 1 hour
Thursday: Advanced pilates 55 mins
Friday: Personal Training 1 hour
Saturday: Aerobics – 45 mins
I am going to start walking up and down 2 flights of stairs at work, 4 times a day and add half an hour of cardio before my pt session on a friday?
Anything else I can do??
Please bear in mind I have hip problems and need a replacement (not that you would know it with all that exercise, but it’s taken me a year to get there after surgery)
Many thanks in advance!

Because of a recent hip fracture I have been told that I will eventually need total hip replacement does anyone know if this is avoidable or is this something I will have to accept.
Hip replacement is elective surgery in that it usually isn’t done on an emergency basis and the patient has time to plan and prepare for it. I have had both hips replaced because I developed osteoarthritis (the most common indication for hip replacement). The surgery really does work and works very well. The recovery and rehab can seem long but once you get to the point where you can walk well, without a walking aid, pain free, and need no pain meds, it all seems worth it. I doubt that any doctor would tell you that hip replacement was avoidable for you. You can always say “no” but you do so at the peril of ending up in a wheel chair, eating pain meds and having no life.l I was almost there before I got the message. I’m so glad I had the surgeries. I’m a different person now and am much more active than I was for years before the surgery.

Joint pains – the stiffness and swelling around joints is commonly associated with arthritis and osteoporosis, which are both conditions that weaken the bones and degenerate the cartilage between the bones. However, menopausal joint pain affects women between the ages of 45-55 or sometimes longer (perimenopause and menopause years) due to hormonal changes that the body will be experiencing during these years.
A joint is commonly defined as the meeting point of two or more bones where these bones move or glide over each other to make movement of the body limbs and parts possible. There are three basic types of joints in the body, namely:
Synathrosis (Fiberous) joints: which are immoveable and can be found in the skull or pelvic bone. This type of joint is held together by only a ligament.
Amphiarthrosis (Cartilaginous) joints: such as the joints found in the vertebral column and the symphysis pubis, which allow limited motion.
Diarthrosis (Synovial) joints: far more common and which are freely moveable joints found in the shoulders, elbows, wrists, knees and ankles. Among this third group of moveable joints there are 6 sub sets:
Hinge – elbow or knee
Pivot – top of he neck
Ball & Socket – shoulder/hip
Saddle – thumb joint
Condyloid – wrist
Gliding – top of the hand/wrist
The joints allow different ranges of movements in the different parts of the body. During perimenopause and menopause, this free flow of movement in the joints is hampered by alterations in the bones and cartilages, which is caused by hormonal changes in the body. Some of these changes can cause the cartilage (which is a substance in the joint covering the bone that allows bones to glide over one another) to wear off, and the secretion of the synovial fluid which lubricates the joints can be hindered or reduced. This situation will lead to pain and swelling in the joints and, subsequently, difficulty in movement and pain. The swelling can be directly attributed to the lowering levels of hormones in the body and specifically estrogen. During menopause there could be a period of aching and sore joints, equally affecting muscles and tendons. More than half of post-menopausal women have been found to experience different degrees of joint pains. Other likely causes for sore joints could be stress, lack of exercise, weight and a poor diet, an injury of some kind and wear and tear on the joints and body generally as a result of age or lifestyle.
Early treatment of these symptoms can help to bring about relief and help to stop further development of arthritis. These are some healthy strategies that can help women effectively cope with joint pain during perimenopause as well as menopause. Having adequate rest and eating a balanced diet preferably with natural, fresh fruits and vegetables for adequate vitamin consumption, and dairy products for calcium and protein, together with sufficient levels of omega 3 nutrients. Gentle exercise not overly load bearing is good 2-3 times a week. When looking at balancing the hormones as a method of reducing joint pain or indeed some other menopause symptoms, many women in the UK and across Europe have found alleviation with a device called LadyCare. Now exclusively available in the USA, the device is thought to balance the natural hormones in the body using purely natural and drug free means. Firstly are you overweight? According to National Health Statistics 60% of the population is overweight and 20% of our children and adolescents are overweight with numbers increasing. Overweight is defined as a body mass index (BMI) of 25 or greater. Obesity is classified as a BMI of 30 or greater.
Determine your BMI at http://www.exrx.net/Calculators/BMI.html
Excess weight is very unhealthy. Even being slightly overweight can carry moderate health risks. The top three killers are heart disease, cancer and diabetes which are all related to obesity and poor nutrition.
There are certain factors today which are contributing to the increasing obesity. Today’s modern diet is full of junk food, processed foods and high levels of preservatives and additives. In addition we are consuming food in excess amounts, we are becoming lazier and more and more people are not partaking in forms of daily physical activity.
The question is what is the best and safest way to go about losing weight which will allow you to keep the weight off? The truth of the matter is that many diets are not safe to be on for long periods of time and simply create the yo yo effect. Weigh off , weight on.
We are spending over 30 billion dollars in weight loss programs each year and yet we are steadily increasing to a nation of overweight people. If low calorie, low fat, low carbohydrate diets worked don’t you think we should be seeing a change in our weight status. Research shows that low calorie diets produce inefficient fat loss and does not support overall nutrition.
In fact when caloric intake drops the body draws from protein, and is not selective on where it draws from, which includes the heart and the kidneys. With Low Fat diets weight loss is also inefficient and some people will gain weight on low fat, Severe fat restriction is unhealthy.
With Low Carb diets weight loss is usually short term, and Long term use can cause constipation, headaches, bad breath, muscle cramps, diarrhea & general weakness Also There are health concerns with increased colon cancer, cholesterol and triglycerides levels and impaired kidney function. And resorting to Diet pills is dangerous and can cause serious side effects
If you’re serious about improving your health and decreasing your body fat once and for all, take the time to examine these key points.
KEY ONE. LOW GLYCEMIC EATING
To lose fat and keep it off for life a safe and effective fat loss system which actually triggers your body into releasing stored fat and using it for energy is required.
A fat loss program is different from a weight loss program and is designed to work with your body and not against it to help you optimize your body’s ability to burn fat. You want to lose fat around the waist line, hips, thighs and upper arms. You don’t want to lose muscle, water or bone density.
This is what low glycemic eating does, it is the key to effective weight loss and a healthy slim body. You can control the things you put into your body and from a chemical perspective, regulating blood sugar levels is the most effective way to release your fat burning capacity. By following a low Glycemic diet, you can control the dramatic rises in blood sugars that pose serious threats to your health.
Benefits of a low Glycemic Indexed (GI) diet:
helps people lose and control weight
increases the body’s responsiveness to insulin
Improve diabetes control
Reduce the risk of heart disease
Reduce blood cholesterol levels
Reduce hunger and keep you fuller longer
Prolong physical endurance
It is simple to switch to a low GI diet as there are no difficult calculations to make, you simply need to substitute your high GI foods with low GI foods.
KEY TWO. EXERCISE
Physical activity is a requirement of any plan to achieve and maintain good health. Activity lights the furnace to burn fat.
This is not a matter of strenuous gym workouts you simply need to increase your activity by going for a 30 minute walk or take the stairs, park further away. You should start any activity program gradually, start slowly, but start something.
KEY THREE. SUPPLEMENT WITH MULTIVITAMINS AND MINERALS
For normal functioning of metabolism and balance we require nutrients in the form of supplements. You need nutrients supplied in a food matrix, which are specifically designed to support your body’s ability to utilize fat. A supplement that provides important antioxidant and stress nutrients.
There are over 400 toxins in our bodies not present 40 years ago , most of them are stored in fat. When you begin to break down that fat , these toxins are released. If you not have adequate antioxidant support your body will compensate by slowing down metabolism. This is a common reason for the plateau that occurs with most weight programs.
KEY FOUR. BOOST YOUR METABOLIC RATE
For most effective weight loss programs you may require a boost in your metabolic rate, which helps maximize your body’s ability to burn fat. Again a natural safe product that will provide energy and boost your metabolic rate and control blood sugar , along with reducing appetite is required.
KEY FIVE. FILL UP ON FIBER
A high fiber diet is desirable for health and efficient fat and weight loss. A fiber product is often required to provide a feeling of fullness, reduce food cravings and for digestive and colon health benefits.
KEY SIX. LOW GLYCEMIC MEAL REPLACEMENT
Many weight loss programs include a Meal replacement. Ensure the meal replacement is low glycemic and contains the nutrients your body needs to feel full and satisfied, along with being delicious and satisfying.
KEY SEVEN. DRINK WATER TO KEEP YOUR ORGANS WELL HYDRATED.
Water is one of the most important nutrients in our diet. The majority of adults require eight to ten glasses of water a day. You can’t remove toxins without sufficient water.
Drink a glass of water half an hour before meals to prevent overeating and to hydrate yourself. And ensure you drink enough water before, during and after exercise. Drinking the right amounts of water will provide you with major benefits and accelerate fat loss.
Countless people have benefited from these same keys Lorraine implemented these keys and after 12 weeks shedded a total of 12.7 kg and more importantly dropped 3 dress sizes and reduced her BMI. You can access further information at www.losefatsafelyforever.com
One of the biggest challenges we have is to educate people in how to safely lose weight and keep it off. People who follow these keys lower their body fat, build lean tissue and experience a better quality of life.
If as a nation, we pay closer attention to our diet and choose our foods based on low glycemic eating we would see a sharp decline in the incidence of diabetes and obestity.

PT bread w / morphine infusion pump and need a hip replacement?
Now I need a total hip prosthesis. The thing is that I am a patient with pain pump implant morphine infusion chronicle of my pain (from a car accident) I'm still in pain on a scale of 1-10 a 7. I have a lot damage to the spinal cord and herniated disk. So my question is, has anyone had an infusion pump implant like me and have undergone a hip replacement or major surgery? Will keep you comfortable for at least a few days later? Have you ever had? Do you use CPA? HELP Thank you for your anticipated response.
While in the hospital, to be followed by the acute pain service (APS). Ensure that your comfort level is achieved. Please let your doctors, nurses, Team APS know about pain management. Outside the PCA prescribe oral medication or injection (intravenous or intramuscular) for pain control. You receive doses regular and "as needed" (PRN – Latin: as needed) to the dose. Note that you can have your dose PRN, and enjoy these if the pain unbearable. Thus, a therapeutic drug in the blood remains stable. My best wishes to you.

When doing post-surgery hip replacement exercises, patients typically progress pretty quickly from lying down to sitting to standing to walking. For walking, some will require a walker or crutches initially to help with balance.
When using a walker or crutches, you should stand up straight and as comfortably as possible with your weight balanced evenly on the device. Move the walker or crutches forward a short distance, then move yourself forward by lifting your operated leg in such a way that your heel will end up touching the floor first. As the step progresses, your knee and ankle will bend until your whole foot is resting evenly on the ground.
Let your toe lift off of the floor as you complete the step. Move the walker or crutches again, and your knee and hip will move automatically into the next step. The more you practice walking and the more you’re able to walk, the more weight you’ll be able to put on your operated leg.
If you start off using a walker or crutches, you’ll eventually graduate to one crutch or a cane. You’re ready to be promoted when you’re able to stand without support, with your weight placed completely on both of your feet, without having to lean on your hands on the walker or crutches at all. The single crutch or cane should be held in the hand opposite of the operated hip.
Stair-climbing is another milestone in hip replacement physical therapy. This is an activity that demands strength and flexibility. To begin with, you’ll require a handrail, and you’ll only be able to go one step at a time. You should always lead up the stairs with the good leg and down the stairs with the “bad” (or thinking cup-half-full, improving) leg.
It might be a good idea to have someone to assist you with stair-climbing until your strength and mobility have returned, but don’t let that stipulation deter you from stair-climbing, because it’s a great exercise for strength and endurance. However, avoid steps that are higher than the standard seven inches, and always use the handrail!
A full recovery from hip replacement surgery will take many months. Your hip muscles were weakened first by pain of a deteriorated joint and then by pain (but a healing pain, hopefully) and swelling caused by the body’s natural defensive reaction to surgery.
You may have noticed that strength is a common theme when talking about hip replacement recovery: less strength, more strength, regaining strength, returning strength, building strength. How do you strengthen your muscles? By exercise – it’s the only true way.
Your doctor will give you continuing strengthening exercises to do once you’ve progressed through the official physical therapy exercises. These might include working with elastic tubes, exercycling, and, of course, walking. There are other strengthening and endurance exercise routines available to you as well. Just stick with it, and remember: there is a pot of gold at the end of this rainbow—a fully functioning and pain-free hip.

Why my Hip joint pain when I do Chinese split on chairs?
I’m doing spilts after 1 year.
It could be you’ve over stretched your tendons and ligaments some time in the past which haven’t healed yet. An injury where your joint is rubbing and damages/scratches the socket could cause problems if not allowed proper time to heal.
As a student of Tradition Chinese Medicine I know the Kidneys govern bone a marrow. It could account as a symptoms of weak kidneys.
Go to a Chiropractor (NOT a medical doctor) and see what he or she says could be the problem. You could have just over worked the joint.
