hip replacement arthritis
What are the chances of me having to get a joint replacement with rheumatoid arthritis?

I have had it since I was 9 (but I have probably had it since I was 7) and it is in every joint except my hips. I have pain everyday and have lost a lot of motion in my joints that are effected especially my ankles. So what do you think my chances are of having to get a joint replacement due to RA?

high chances..

Hip Replacement Revision Surgery

hip replacement revision surgery
artificial hip replacement requiring leg amputation if bone broken has anyone heard of this?

my partner has had a hip replacement he’s had it for about 8 years or so anyway his latest check up revealed the outer bone of the leg to be very thin and might need revision surgery it was followed up with a CT scan of which he was told he’s ok for another next 6 months now I’m being told (by his mum who spoke to his doctor) that if he damages his hip his leg is going to be amputated? has anyone ever heard of a orthopedic surgeon going to this extreme? he is prone to bone death because of alcoholism if that helps
the doctor has apparently said they don’t know what they are dealing with re: the bone being thin and if it stasts to hurt they lop the leg off
the doctor has apparently said they don’t know what they are dealing with re: the bone being thin and if it starts to hurt they lop the leg off

Perhaps you and your partner should get your information directly from the doctor instead of through his mother. Bone “death” is called osteonecrosis. And, yes, alcoholism is one cause of osteonecrosis. If he has revision surgery, they would likely remove the old prosthesis and replace it with a new one. They would probably not amputate his leg.
CONSULT THE DOCTOR.

anyone had a bone graft from hip bone?

i injured my ulna years ago, in a mva, had it plated-had it taken out 2 years later, now i found out due to pain, it never healed, the surgeon wants to graft bone from my iliac crest aka hip bone, and put that in the ulna, and re-plate it to get it to heal proplery, how painful is this?
he will also be doing arthroscopy on my wrist to repair a damaged endon at the same time…anyone had this done? how painful?

Im not going to lie to you it is one of the most pain full medical procedures available today but with modern pain killers you will be OK. Judging what you are telling us the surgery is necessary (doctors don’t preform surgery for no reason)

I have 50 and has a bad hip and will probably need a hip replacement at some point. Therefore, read next?

I I'm unemployed so there is no health insurance at that time a place that could do it for free or for money under -. lol – or should die on the table. any help or advice would be great thanks …. older people suck ….. What I can expect from the surgery and if I live in it or rehabilitation as well. thanks … jh lives in Columbus, Ohio, also

Living in the UK where treatment is free, I can only sympathize and offer to vote for Barack Obama. The procedure for surgery Hip replacement is fantastic (invented by an Englishman, if I may say) and become the life of thousands of people. This is major surgery, and risk infection and blood clots, but not discouraged. I have not had one die on the table in my hands. At his age, however, you may need later, the second procedure.

How can I cure illiac crest hip pain?

As a middle distance runner for the last 12 mnths, I have had increasing pain in my right illiac crest of my hip. I have been dilligent with stretching and monitoring distance and speed to ensure I don’t overtrain. No expert to date has been able to relieve the pain. I know it is related to my illiotibial band of my leg, but even trying to strengthen my medial muscles has not helped. Any ideas on what is causing me so much grief and how I can relieve the pain so that I may keep up my running?

Over use of the muscles is causing the hip pain. You seem to be trying to do the right things by stretching and monitoring. I think you’re going to have to take a break from running to give the muscles the rest they desperately need. Pain is always a message that something is wrong. Do water exercises and swimming to reduce strain on the body.

Apply a moist heating pad or hot towels to the hip for twenty minutes. This should start to relax the muscles. It would be ideal if you could get physical therapy and have ultrasound therapy to the hips, this is a deep heat penetration that works far better than anything else for relaxing muscles. I do recommend you get massage therapy at least once a week to relax the muscles.

When a muscle is tired – it is tired. I have severe hip problems so I know what it’s like.

Hip Replacement And Dental Work

Friday, July 1st, 2011

How long , generally speaking, does it take to walk without any support following hip replacement surgery?

I am 45 years old, and have been told that I need both hips replaced. I have 2 teenagers at home and can’t be laid up for long. I also need to work. I am a dental assistant and have to move quickly while at work. What Kind of a time frame am I looking at for returning to work, and just functioning without any help ?

At the age of 45, if you are in otherwise good health, I’d expect maybe a week or two on the walker or crutches, 3-4 weeks on the cane. POTENTIAL return to work by the 4th or 6th week, but likely on a part time basis. Most people are doing their normal job by the 12th week. Most people take at least 8 weeks off from work.

…and that’s assuming you only get one hip done. It’s rare to have two hips done at once, but if you do this, expect a longer recovery.

Total Hip Replacement Precautions

Thursday, June 30th, 2011

What is a reasonable amount of time to wait have sexual intercourse after total hip replacement surgery?

I had the surgery June 1, 2010 and thus far I have been following the doctor’s precautions and instructions. Sex has not really been a big deal because my husband has been on a tour. Now he is soon expected to be home and my anxiety is rising because of such. The doctor’s still say no sex and I think that my body may agree, according to my ability to freely move it around and the lack of some range of motion. The problem is that my mind and emotions say something totally opposite. I guess the real question is has everything efficiently healed to the point that I won’t hurt myself or cause any setbacks if I am extremely careful, right?

I just had a total hip joint replacement 6 weeks ago. And although my surgery was less invasive, an anterior cut, and recovery is 6-8 weeks instead of the usual 3 months, I am wary about moving in such a way as to have a possible dislocation. It takes many months to get your range of motion back. I would follow your doctor’s limits on your activities. Perhaps you can try alternate love making activities that do not affect your hip at all. Don’t do anything you are not feeling good about. Take care.

Depuy Hip Recall Lawyers – What are the errors that we must be avoided?

I had my surgery for hip replacement last year and have problems with my implants. My implants may have been involved in a recall, and be entitled to compensation. the problem is my case was sabotage.do anyone knows What are the errors that we must be avoided regarding this case?

Obvious spamming.

Both people joined today, both give each other BA

Both have the same poor English abilities. The lawyers must be desperate to spam Y!A

What implants? What went wrong exactly? Without this information no advice can be given.

I would rather go and discuss it with my surgeon rather than a bunch of hipster lawyers on a retainer trying to make a quick buck from others’ problems. No, don’t go with these bunch of shysters, they are nothing but scammers.

hip replacement prosthesis
Ceramic Hip Replacement?

I am interested in talking with anyone who has had a ceramic hip replacement. I have now had FOUR ceramic hip replacements…and it was supposed to last a lifetime! My concerns are these: I still have severe pain, intermittently, in my lower thigh where to prosthesis and the real bone are joined; I still have shooting pains down my leg from time to time; and many more. Please join my blog and discuss any concerns you may have.

You don’t mention how long ago you had your last surgery nor have you told us the reasons that you have had to have the hip[s] revised (was it repeated dislocation? infection? aseptic loosening? shattered ceramic??)
The ceramic material is used only for the bearing, not the shaft (stem) which is made from metal, possibly titanium. The pain that you describe could be end-of-stem pain if the stem is porous coated and is uncemented (sometimes referred to as bone-ingrowth). This pain can occur as long as a year after surgery as the bone grows into the prosthesis and, while it isn’t unusual for this type of pain to occur, that is one of the disadvantages of uncemented stems. I offer this link on the subject from a website developed by an ortho surgeon as a service to patients.

(Note in the above link what he says about end-of-stem pain)

This may also interest you on the subject of ceramic bearings:
