he will also be doing arthroscopy on my wrist to repair a damaged endon at the same time…anyone had this done? how painful?

Im not going to lie to you it is one of the most pain full medical procedures available today but with modern pain killers you will be OK. Judging what you are telling us the surgery is necessary (doctors don’t preform surgery for no reason)

hip pain stretches
How can I cure illiac crest hip pain?

As a middle distance runner for the last 12 mnths, I have had increasing pain in my right illiac crest of my hip. I have been dilligent with stretching and monitoring distance and speed to ensure I don’t overtrain. No expert to date has been able to relieve the pain. I know it is related to my illiotibial band of my leg, but even trying to strengthen my medial muscles has not helped. Any ideas on what is causing me so much grief and how I can relieve the pain so that I may keep up my running?

Over use of the muscles is causing the hip pain. You seem to be trying to do the right things by stretching and monitoring. I think you’re going to have to take a break from running to give the muscles the rest they desperately need. Pain is always a message that something is wrong. Do water exercises and swimming to reduce strain on the body.

Apply a moist heating pad or hot towels to the hip for twenty minutes. This should start to relax the muscles. It would be ideal if you could get physical therapy and have ultrasound therapy to the hips, this is a deep heat penetration that works far better than anything else for relaxing muscles. I do recommend you get massage therapy at least once a week to relax the muscles.

When a muscle is tired – it is tired. I have severe hip problems so I know what it’s like.

Everything You Ought To Know About Symptoms And Treatments Of Knee Pain

Knee pain is extremely common. In fact, this condition is generally responsible for about 1/3 of all doctor’s visits for muscle and bone pain. Knee pain is a special problem for most athletes and over half of them endure it every year. Knee pain has a wide variety of causes and treatments. Swollen or torn ligaments, meniscus (cartilage) tears, and runner’s knee are the most common reasons for knee pain. But the knee is a complex joint, therefore there’s a lot more that can go wrong. The following are just some of the conditions that surely causes knee pain:

1. Bone Chips. Sometimes, a knee injury can break off fragments from the bone or cartilage. These pieces can get stuck in the joint, causing it to freeze up and you may also experience pain and swelling.

2. Bursitis. There are two types of bursitis, the ‘housemaid’s knee’ and the ‘preacher’s knee’ and these two are usually caused by kneeling. An overuse, a fall or repeated bending could irritate the bursa, thus causing knee pain and swelling.

3. Iliotibial Band Syndrome. The iliotibial band is a piece of tough tissue that runs from your hip down to your shin so if it is irritated by overuse or other problems, it can get swollen and cause pain on the outside of the knee.

4. Medial Plica Syndrome. Plica is a fold tissue in the knee joint so when this part gets irritated from overuse or other problems, swelling and knee pain can result.

5. Osgood-Schlatter Disease. Osgood-Schlatter is a condition causes painful bump below the knee, where a tendon from the kneecap connects to the shin. Usually this is caused by overuse and irritation of the tendon and pain may come and go over time. This condition is common in teenage girls and boys.

6. Osteoarthritis. A frequent cause of knee pain in adults.

7. Patellar Subluxation. Patellar subluxation (or partially dislocated kneecap) is a condition in which the kneecap slides out of position, causing knee pain and swelling. It is often the result of physical defect in your legs, rather than an injury and particularly common in teenage girls.

8. Tendonitis. When tendons get irritated from overuse, it can surely make the tendons inflamed and sore. One type of knee tendonitis is called ‘jumper’s knee.’

If an old knee injury was not correctly treated, it may keep causing occasional knee pain. But what does a knee pain feel like? Definitely the symptoms of knee pain vary depending on your specific knee injury, but things to look out for are: Pain (often when bending or straightening the knee.) and Swelling. Now, if you have either of these knee pain symptoms, consult your doctor immediately. Together, you could figure out the actual cause of your knee pain. To check what is causing your knee pain, certainly your doctor will surely have to do a thorough exam like X-rays, MRIS (Magnetic Resonance Imaging), or MR arthrogram (a special type of MRI in which a dye is injected into the knee to see more detail of the joint.

What’s the best knee pain treatment? Treatment for knee pain is dependent upon your particular knee injury. Mild to moderate injuries that cause knee pain will frequently heal on their own, given time, but to speed the healing, you can try the following:

1. Rest your knee. Give your knee a good rest and avoid intense activity.

2. Ice. Icing may reduce pain and swelling. Do it for 20 to 30 minutes every 3 to 4 hours for 2 to 3 days or until the pain is gone.

3. Compress. To compress your knee, it is best to use an elastic bandage, straps or sleeves to keep down swelling or add support.

4. Elevate your knee. Elevate your knee on a pillow when you are lying down or sitting for it can help reduce swelling.

5. Natural knee pain treatment. To treat knee pain, try to use Brazilian Heat spray because this menthol product is designed to help relieve your pain by turning off the pain nerves.

6. Practice stretching and strengthening exercises if your physician recommends them.

However to solve certain cases of knee pain, you need a procedure. Those with bursitis sometimes need to have excess fluid drawn from the knee and a surgery may be needed to remove bone chips or fix a dislocated kneecap. So when are you going to feel better? Recovery time from knee pain depends on the type of your injury. Further, people heal at various rates. While you get better, ask your doctor if you should take a new activity that will not aggravate your knee pain. Such as, runners could try swimming. Remember, anything you do, do not rush things and don’t attempt to return to your old level of physical activity until you feel no pain in your knee as you bend, walk, jog, sprint or jump. Or your knee feels as strong as your uninjured knee. However if you start using your knee before it is healed, you might cause permanent damage.

Knee pain can be difficult to prevent, since it is often a result of an accident. But you can still find some prevention you could take to reduce the risk of a knee injury.

1. Don’t exercise if you feel pain your knee.

2. Always increase the intensity of your workout gradually.

3. Stretch and strengthen your knee before and after physical activity.

4. To avoid bursitis, be sure to use knee pads.

5. Wear a pair of shoes that fit well and offer enough support.

6. And, keep your thigh muscles strong with regular stretching and strengthening.

Tasty Foods That Can Aid In Your Hip Replacement Recovery

Having a hip replaced can be a great pain reliever, allowing a person to enjoy everyday living the way they always imagined. Yet, there’s a general fear of hip replacement recovery obstacles, like blood clots or Osteolysis.

Because a hip replacement can be the result of numerous life situations, medications and follow up care may vary. Still, across the board physicians agree that a healthy diet is a big key to recovery success. Since hip replacement surgery can make the body more vulnerable to illnesses, it’s important to load up on super nutritious foods. The exciting thing is, there are foods that are packed with both powerful nutrients and taste.

Imagine enjoying a carefully seasoned salmon grilled with a splash of lemon.  Or a mouth watering Trout, well prepared and tender.  These fish taste good and provide your body with Omega-3 fatty acids known also as Omega 3s. Omega 3s are amongst the top food champions known for their ability to help ease joint pain and boost immune systems.

The moment they work their way into a body’s system, they begin activating a chemical that helps control inflammation. Their role is so vital that a recovering patient can enjoy up to two hearty servings of one of these cold water fish a week.  Almost every restaurant has one of these fish on their dinner menu but there are several everyday recipes that can show you how to make this fish an at home dinner delight.

Do you have a sweet tooth?  Indulge in a cupful of fresh strawberries, raspberries, or blueberries.  Because these sweet treats are flavor filled bites of antioxidants, they also reign as some of the top food champions.

The antioxidants these berries release are disease fighting, preventing the stress that comes from oxidation.  There have been several studies showing that a cup of berries a day can help increase the amount of antioxidants your body needs, especially after a surgery when your body needs the extra help. Served chilled, steamed, or freshly picked, berries are an excellent addition to your recovery menu.

If after eating a wonderful fish dinner or berry snack you still have a desire for a little more, try having a small portion of dark chocolate.  An ounce of smooth, melt in your mouth dark chocolate eaten everyday has been proven to reduce the formation of plaque formed in arteries while simultaneously lowering blood pressure. During hip recovery, this treat is one you don’t have to feel bad about enjoying.

Tasty foods that can aid in your hip replacement recovery really do exist. Fish, delicious berries, and dark chocolate are just as nutritious for children as they are for adults.

hip pain running exercises
What to do about hip pain?

I’m 38 years old, and for the past two-three weeks have been having considerable hip pain, mainly on the left side. I can still walk decently, but have an especially tough time going up stairs.

A friend of mine says it’s probably the nerve that runs down my leg that is giving me the pain. I think I am compesating for the pain on the left side, and that’s leading to sore muscles on my right leg and lower back.

So, what should I do?! Are there stretching and other exercises that might help? Should I see a doctor? Chiropractor?

Thanks for your help.

(BTW: I weigh 165 pounds, so it’s not any extra weight that led to the problem. In fact, I think carrying my two-year-old daughter around town and up stairs caused the injury)

cut back on the carbs and make sure you are getting enough magnesium.

(had hip pain (and hand pain) for years before I found this out, just by accident. White flour products, potatoes, corn, sugar (think of it as white death), acid-based fruit.) If I were Chinese, I’d say you have too much yang.)

If it is stress-impact related, make sure that you carry your daughter evenly. (like with a sling or back pack)

But if it continues for more than a month, I’d suggest going to see a doctor. He’ll probably prescribe analgesics

Hip Replacement And Exercise

hip replacement and exercise
I have to have a hip replacement in the spring, how long before it is completely healed?

I need a hip for several years and finally discovered that this is the problem, not lack of exercise that my doctor told me. How long will it take on average before that I am relatively free pain and returning to work and exercise? I can carry more weight and can make a difference and was not able to walk or exercise without pain for more than 15.

I both hips replaced in separate cabinets of 5 months apart. The payback period for the replacement of the hip usually involves Physical therapy begins immediately when you remove the patient from the bed and walk in a walker. My PT has continued for nearly two months with the exercises become progressively more difficult. I continued my routines PT PT, even after external consultation was completed, adding things like bike elliptical walk longer distances weight lifting, etc. It is a good time to continue with the exercise, as already used PT exercises to do every day without pain? Since hospitals and doctors are quite aggressive treatment of pain today, you can almost expect to be without pain immediately. For my first couple of days after the operation, which had PCA pump that delivered a fixed amount of pain medicine in my IV and automatically pressing a button allowed me whether I thought it needed more. Then carried the ACC, put me on oral medication. The worst pain I had all the hospital when I moved to the "bad" and took me away from my back by my side. In these cases, the pain was sharp but fleeting. May also be invited to sleep on your back with a pillow between your legs the elimination of some weeks. I have back pain because I am not sleep again. Once I got rolling on my right side, even for short periods, I have a good night's sleep from time to time. It was more boring than my hip. After the dismissal of the hospital gave me a prescription for pain medication. However, I discovered I could get without a prescription Tylenol, has not needed pain medication prescribed (Not just agree with me). and I was allowed to run at about 5 weeks her. The time to return to work depends largely on the type of work to do. Felt I could go back to my old job about 6 weeks after my second hip replacement. It was a job that allowed me to spend time alternately sitting and standing and walking, but does not include lifting and carrying heavy objects. I found this session for long periods difficult. I prefer to stand and walk. Everything depends on the nature employment and, of course, the surgeon has something to say upon returning to work. Some workplaces may require your doctor's approval before returning to work.

hip pain bursitis stretches
Treatments for trochanteric bursitis?

I have had this type of bursitis for many years and get very bad flares with it sometimes that I can barely walk It is in both hips, I take anti-inflammatories,stretch when I can, use ice and when real bad get a cortisone shot which use to help but is no longer very beneficial.I have a home ultra sound machine which sometimes relieves a bit of pain as well. Has anyone out there tried accupuncture or anything else for this.???Its getting worse and very very painful so response will be greatly appreciated.~Thank You

Go to an Osteopathic Dr. (a D.O.).
When I had the bursitis in my knees so bad that I could barely walk, he actually manually pumped the bursa to empty it of fluid (not painful, felt great). He also gave me exercises to do in a swimming pool to keep them from filling with fluid again, and told me how to use ice packs for other knee swelling.
RE. the NSAIDs, try Zyflamend by New Chapter, a natural Cox2 inhibitor without the side-effects and long term damage of what you are using, BTDT too. It’s available at health food stores. This worked better than Viox or any Rx .
Also, being treated with classical homeopathy went very far to alleviate the pain, as in it eventually got me off crutches after almost a year of needing them to walk very slowly.
thelesterclinic.com on line is my Osteopath, who is also my homeopath. If you are not in my area, he can usually give you a good referral close to you.
Best wishes & said a prayer for you too:)

hip pain running
pain in the groin / hip while running?

Does anyone know how the pain or help? I only on one side, it feels like a muscle tendon or small, where my leg my hip joints, near the front / groin area. The pain is less and takes longer to start if I take smaller steps when I run. It is slowly improving (a muscle becomes loud?), I felt for the first time after 5 minutes of running, now do not notice it until about 20 minutes. I've noticed that when you exercise on my back, and leg lift pilates exercise. Everyone knows the name of this pain? I know it's hard to say what it is. Management books I searched for it, but no luck, and I'll ask a doctor about this soon.

Hey, you can get an MRI density in the hip. I had a contrast of hip when I was a freshman in college, because I lived some of the same things that you mentioned. Turned I had a tear. Esp is an uncommon for riders who have changed their training intensity. For me, it was generally a sort of dull pain then became in pain. Sometimes vice versa. There are simple tests that can be done to determine if this is your problem. Is treatable, so do not stress about it, but it is a pain ass! good luck

Hip Pain And Running

hip pain and running
Terrible hip pain after running please help!?

I’m
14 years old
5’5
94lbs and underweight
We’ll i can run considerably fast around 6:00 in a mile now i have been running everyday to improve my time and about 2-3 weeks ago my hip started hurting i put it off as nothing well the pain hasn’t gone away and i’m worried it might be something serious. It hurts on my right hip along the top of the bone and every now and then i experienced some lower back pain near the hip. So if any of you guys experienced this type of pain or know what might be causing it please help reply.

It could be cos u r pushing yourself very far..but the most likely thing is that you are not excersing enough…that hip injury leads to shin splints. So make sure you keep strecting and excersing.

Do you run consistently? or have u started after a break?
