Advantages of Total Hip Replacement Surgery

Many people suffer hip pain from arthritis that no longer function well or causes severe pain with even simple daily activities. When evaluating through a careful review of X-ray indicates that hip is extensively worn out. For such situation, total hip surgery is the best option, which offers relief from the pain.

Total hip replacement surgery is very effective and less painful if done with the most advanced minimally invasive surgical techniques and rehabilitation program. There are various advantages a patient can gain due to total hip surgery done through anterior approach technique. Let us see few of them.

  • Faster recovery: On the same day of surgery, patients can get up walking full weight bearing on their operative hip shortly after returning from the recovery area. Many fit patients just need a cane to walk about in the hospital and are able to start general activities within a few weeks. While it may take many months for some patients to fully recover following conventional hip replacement surgery, the anterior approach technique enables patients often to recover and return to activities such as golf, tennis, biking and of course distance walking in as short as four weeks.
  • Minimally Invasive. The anterior approach to hip replacement surgery is the most minimally invasive choice for people suffering from arthritis, hip pain, and stiffness and limited hip movement. A small 4″ incision is created over the anterior-lateral aspect of the hip. No muscle is detached from bone in this approach. In the front of the hip, some muscles are temporarily pushed apart to allow work on the bones of the hip joint but are not injured and completely functional in this approach. Usually this result is far less painful than is typical in other approaches to the hip used by most surgeons and compliments the faster recovery.
  • Less Restrictive. After hip replacement surgery, patients must limit flexing of the hip to no more than 60 to 90 degrees that usually results in complications of normal activities like sitting in a chair, on a toilet seat, putting on shoes or getting into a car. Simply climbing stairs may also be more difficult during recovery when following the conventional replacement surgery. These restrictions, simply do not apply after total hip replacement using the anterior approach technique.
  • More Accurate: The use of the latest and specialized X-ray machine known as fluoroscope allows the orthopedic surgeon to see the placement of the component parts of the hip replacement and to make adjustments immediately to give the patient the most accurately placed hip prosthesis and to have the most equal lengths before leaving the operating room.

Thus, we can see that anterior approach to the hip in the total hip replacement surgery is much better compare to others. But, this method is not used by most of the surgeons in America. Only a very few hip surgeons are currently offering this approach to their patients. So, it is better to check with your orthopedic surgeon before undergoing for total hip surgery. Total hip replacement surgery offers benefits that the traditional route to hip replacement just cannot offer.

Seven Proven Keys to Safe Effective Weight Loss

Weight Loss is something we all strive for.

Firstly are you overweight? According to National Health Statistics 60% of the population is overweight and 20% of our children and adolescents are overweight with numbers increasing. Overweight is defined as a body mass index (BMI) of 25 or greater. Obesity is classified as a BMI of 30 or greater.

Determine your BMI at http://www.exrx.net/Calculators/BMI.html

Excess weight is very unhealthy. Even being slightly overweight can carry moderate health risks. The top three killers are heart disease, cancer and diabetes which are all related to obesity and poor nutrition.

There are certain factors today which are contributing to the increasing obesity. Today’s modern diet is full of junk food, processed foods and high levels of preservatives and additives. In addition we are consuming food in excess amounts, we are becoming lazier and more and more people are not partaking in forms of daily physical activity.

The question is what is the best and safest way to go about losing weight which will allow you to keep the weight off? The truth of the matter is that many diets are not safe to be on for long periods of time and simply create the yo yo effect. Weigh off , weight on.

We are spending over 30 billion dollars in weight loss programs each year and yet we are steadily increasing to a nation of overweight people. If low calorie, low fat, low carbohydrate diets worked don’t you think we should be seeing a change in our weight status. Research shows that low calorie diets produce inefficient fat loss and does not support overall nutrition.

In fact when caloric intake drops the body draws from protein, and is not selective on where it draws from, which includes the heart and the kidneys. With Low Fat diets weight loss is also inefficient and some people will gain weight on low fat, Severe fat restriction is unhealthy.

With Low Carb diets weight loss is usually short term, and Long term use can cause constipation, headaches, bad breath, muscle cramps, diarrhea & general weakness Also There are health concerns with increased colon cancer, cholesterol and triglycerides levels and impaired kidney function. And resorting to Diet pills is dangerous and can cause serious side effects

If you’re serious about improving your health and decreasing your body fat once and for all, take the time to examine these key points.

KEY ONE. LOW GLYCEMIC EATING

To lose fat and keep it off for life a safe and effective fat loss system which actually triggers your body into releasing stored fat and using it for energy is required.

A fat loss program is different from a weight loss program and is designed to work with your body and not against it to help you optimize your body’s ability to burn fat. You want to lose fat around the waist line, hips, thighs and upper arms. You don’t want to lose muscle, water or bone density.

This is what low glycemic eating does, it is the key to effective weight loss and a healthy slim body. You can control the things you put into your body and from a chemical perspective, regulating blood sugar levels is the most effective way to release your fat burning capacity. By following a low Glycemic diet, you can control the dramatic rises in blood sugars that pose serious threats to your health.

Benefits of a low Glycemic Indexed (GI) diet:

helps people lose and control weight

increases the body’s responsiveness to insulin

Improve diabetes control

Reduce the risk of heart disease

Reduce blood cholesterol levels

Reduce hunger and keep you fuller longer

Prolong physical endurance

It is simple to switch to a low GI diet as there are no difficult calculations to make, you simply need to substitute your high GI foods with low GI foods.

KEY TWO. EXERCISE

Physical activity is a requirement of any plan to achieve and maintain good health. Activity lights the furnace to burn fat.

This is not a matter of strenuous gym workouts you simply need to increase your activity by going for a 30 minute walk or take the stairs, park further away. You should start any activity program gradually, start slowly, but start something.

KEY THREE. SUPPLEMENT WITH MULTIVITAMINS AND MINERALS

For normal functioning of metabolism and balance we require nutrients in the form of supplements. You need nutrients supplied in a food matrix, which are specifically designed to support your body’s ability to utilize fat. A supplement that provides important antioxidant and stress nutrients.

There are over 400 toxins in our bodies not present 40 years ago , most of them are stored in fat. When you begin to break down that fat , these toxins are released. If you not have adequate antioxidant support your body will compensate by slowing down metabolism. This is a common reason for the plateau that occurs with most weight programs.

KEY FOUR. BOOST YOUR METABOLIC RATE

For most effective weight loss programs you may require a boost in your metabolic rate, which helps maximize your body’s ability to burn fat. Again a natural safe product that will provide energy and boost your metabolic rate and control blood sugar , along with reducing appetite is required.

KEY FIVE. FILL UP ON FIBER

A high fiber diet is desirable for health and efficient fat and weight loss. A fiber product is often required to provide a feeling of fullness, reduce food cravings and for digestive and colon health benefits.

KEY SIX. LOW GLYCEMIC MEAL REPLACEMENT

Many weight loss programs include a Meal replacement. Ensure the meal replacement is low glycemic and contains the nutrients your body needs to feel full and satisfied, along with being delicious and satisfying.

KEY SEVEN. DRINK WATER TO KEEP YOUR ORGANS WELL HYDRATED.

Water is one of the most important nutrients in our diet. The majority of adults require eight to ten glasses of water a day. You can’t remove toxins without sufficient water.

Drink a glass of water half an hour before meals to prevent overeating and to hydrate yourself. And ensure you drink enough water before, during and after exercise. Drinking the right amounts of water will provide you with major benefits and accelerate fat loss.

Countless people have benefited from these same keys Lorraine implemented these keys and after 12 weeks shedded a total of 12.7 kg and more importantly dropped 3 dress sizes and reduced her BMI. You can access further information at www.losefatsafelyforever.com

One of the biggest challenges we have is to educate people in how to safely lose weight and keep it off. People who follow these keys lower their body fat, build lean tissue and experience a better quality of life.

If as a nation, we pay closer attention to our diet and choose our foods based on low glycemic eating we would see a sharp decline in the incidence of diabetes and obestity.

hip replacement cost
My mom is 61 yrs old does not have insurance and just found out she needs a hip replacement. Need advice.?

The doctor told her the surgery would cost approximately $30,000. My mom is a widow, is retired from heavy highway construction after 22 years, she is cannot work right now due to poor health. (she was working part-time with her brothers who are in the commercial fishing industry on Lake Michigan, but working on the boat at her age and health is too much, so now she doesn’t even have that income). Are there any options for her to get help for this surgery. She is not old enough for Medicare or Medicaid (not sure which it is, sorry). I’m trying to get educated here so I can find her some help. She’s in a lot of pain. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated or where we could go for help. And I don’t think she’s old enough for social security yet.

If she cannot work, she should consider applying for disability. Those on SS disability are eligible for medicare even though they aren’t 65 yrs old. Also have your mom get advice on ways to cope with the hip arthritis. There are many coping skills and things she can do to make life at least marginally bearable while she waits on surgery. Some hospitals have classes for people with arthritis and she might benefit. Also she might benefit from a regimen of physical therapist-prescribed exercises and the use of walking aid such as a cane or crutch or even a wheelchair. There are also medicines that she can take that might help relieve pain. Her doctor can advise on this.

I’ve had both of my hips replaced and can attest to the high probability of success of the surgery. It has literally changed my life and I hope your mom can benefit from the surgery as well. It is considered elective surgery because it isn’t usually done on an emergency basis and can be planned for.

Things you can do: help her see about applying for SS Disability. While she waits on the outcome of that application (it can require appeals and takes lots of time), find her an arthritis support group (check with her doctor and at local hospitals). If she doesn’t already take pain meds, have her ask her doctor for recommendations. I took Aleve at double the OTC dose upon my Dr’s recommendation and it helped me for several years. There are other possible meds to take. Next, get her a cane and have her physical therapist or doctor teach her how to use it properly. It might be worth it for her to pay for a consult with a physical therapist who could design a program of exercises that would keep the muscles around her hip strong.
I know how hip arthritis can drag a person down. I lived with gradually worsening arthritis in both of my hips for about 10 years until they were so bad that I couldn’t even walk without a cane. My world got smaller and smaller.
Best of luck to you both.

How much for an appointment at Michigan State University Vet Hsptl / how total hip surgery REPL there?

I heard it was much cheaper veterinary school in the State of Michigan. Does anyone know how much it would cost approximately?

Note that you can not go to the doctor and plop down money to buy a solution – just do not like that. Maybe you can get away with a simple surgery – but more likely it is a process of recovery the healing process. You need to provide for expenses among 15020-5000 in Labrador between now and the time of 24 months. Medical tourism is growing

More than 45 million Americans are uninsured and can not afford a surgery intervention United States. Many of them travel abroad for medical treatment solely because of costs.

Following an operation on an aneurysm of the aorta in a U.S. hospital normally costs $ 450,000. The same treatment may be held in India for about $ 9,000. Even after adding the cost of flights and hotels, is a fraction of what U.S. hospitals are load. No wonder medical tourism is growing.

In 2007, 750,000 Americans traveled abroad to receive medical treatment decisions, companies that offer this service until the numbers are growing. The high cost of health insurance is at the origin Many opt for emergency housing who are willing to take the risk of maintaining good health. Now, many have added the option of tourism their physician as a reserve positions.

The Deloitte Center for Health Solutions research group based in Washington hope the numbers to travel abroad for health treatment to reach 6 million by the end of 2010.

To date, the most common of medical tourism procedures were dental and cosmetic surgery, yet hip and knee are also becoming popular.

So Where do you go for medical treatment abroad?

• Costa Rica is known for orthopedic and spine, liposuction, and a number cosmetic procedures.

• Mexico is the main destination for dental care and often can be completed in one day. However, many prefer to recover the white sands of the Pacific coast.

• India – orthopedics and heart.

Singapore • – cancer treatments, spine surgery, transplants and orthopedic surgery.

• Procedures Thailand – Orthopaedic Surgery cosmetic surgery, and heart.

Many patients choose to travel abroad for medical treatment to add trips would not otherwise have had the opportunity. However, some Recovery can take some time, but no VIP services in hospitals and hotels, usually is a much better service than I ever could afford in the United States.

British and Irish residents were enjoying excellent health care in Eastern Europe since the fall of the wall. Dental care is especially very cheap in comparison, and have no long waiting periods, a problem affecting the health services of both countries.

Many agencies travel for foreign companies specialized medical treatment that is used to make all the arrangements for them, but individuals may have the same provisions. But for a little more than pays for itself that can have a skilled facilitator of a company that specializes in this field. These companies find the best doctors, compare prices between countries, and the organization of the hotels, visas and flights.

Americans, it makes you proud: Foreigners who come to hospitals in the United States? or the Americans …?

or the Americans … go hospital abroad? "As word spread about the high quality care and surgery discounts available in countries like India, Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia, a growing influx of Americans uninsured or underinsured are boarding planes not for a facelift or tummy tuck classical but for hip replacements and cardiac surgery to reduce the complexity. Bumrungrad alone, according to CEO Curtis Schroeder saw its stream of American patients climb to 55,000 last year, an increase of 30%. Three quarters of them flew to the United States, 83% reached noncosmetic treatment. Meanwhile, India's trade in patients increasingly international at the same pace … "Http: / / www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0, 9171,1196429,00. Html

I went to Thailand for treatment dentistry (veneers). Best decision I ever made. Im very proud of America and not many things these days. I'm working on moving to Thailand today, not an easy process if it takes 10 years for citizenship. "As word spread about the quality of care and types of large surgical cut is available in countries like India "Please Note: The high-quality care." Places like Bangkok has great doctors and so on. I'm sure if the U.S. enters an area of small rural poor dimensions you will not feel too much in this type of hospital, but in larger cities, which have educated doctors.

Weight Loss Supplements-Top Picks To Be Sure Of Dietary Success

Although weight loss supplements are popularly considered to be chemical assistance to help the dieter lose weight by changing the makeup of the body, they don’t necessarily have to be the semi-addictive types of prescription drugs that have given diet pills such a bad name. There are several ways that assistance in losing weight is approached by individuals and their diet doctors. Common grouping include herbs and naturopathic products; fiber products to provide a sensation of fullness; products to increase the metabolic rate of the body and other substances that assist the body to break down and burn fats that are consumed so they don’t reappear as fat cells.

Herbal products

Herbal weight loss supplements include ingredients that are used by native peoples to reduce hunger.  Generally, herbal products serve in three capacities.  The herbs are used to aid in thermogenesis (metabolism), suppress appetite or aid indigestion.  Some of the herbs that are considered to be effective in one or more of the above functions include green tea, hoodia, cayenne, kelp, nettle or ginseng. Other herbs such as ephedra have been used in the past to boost metabolism but may have dangerous or even fatal side effects and are not recommended as a dietary aid.

Fiber products

Some weight loss supplements are simply intended to help the dieter feel full without adding large calorie counts.  Adding increased fiber to your diet is a good health practice as well as a calorie reduction mechanism. When your body signals the brain that you are full, you are likely to eat less. Bran, whole grains or other fiber products combined with water will help to make you feel full without actually consuming hundreds of calories that will remain on the belly and hips. If necessary, a snack high in fiber can replace your morning doughnut or jelly roll.

Metabolic products

Many weight loss supplements are focused on increasing the metabolism.  The metabolism is the rate at which the foods you eat are converted to heat or energy in your body. Many products have been used to improve the rate of thermogenesis in the past.  Unfortunately, some are not as healthy as they should be and others may have been banned due to danger of side effects or even death.  No matter which products you use, consider whether they may be dangerous if used in combination with other herbs or drugs.

Fat Burners

Weight loss supplements sometimes are used to alter the digestive process.  An example is a supplement that changes how carbohydrates are broken down in the body. Other supplements temporarily raise the fat burning level of the body.  You can use calcium as a supplement that will increase the feeling of fullness so that the appetite is diminished and less calories are taken in. Your diet preparation should include the study of some of the ingredients that are used as supplements to decide whether you should use them in your weight loss activities. Look for safe and effective supplements to assist in your diet.

Ceramic Hip Replacement Surgery In India At Affordable Low Cost

Ceramic Hip Replacement

Ceramic Hip Replacement in India

Hip replacement is among the most commonly performed orthopedic procedures, and the results are excellent. Over 90% of patients have excellent pain relief and improved ability to perform routine daily activities.

Because of the success of hip replacement surgery, this procedure is being performed in younger and younger patients. The problem is that hip replacements wear out over time. The average hip replacement lasts about 25 years–some longer, some shorter. However, hip replacements are known to wear out more quickly in younger, more active patients…

Latest Developments

Ceramic hip replacements have been developed in an effort to decrease the wearing out of hip implants. Ceramic hip replacment implants are very hard, and very smooth. These characteristics could help to decrease the amount of wear within the implants.

In the traditional metal and plastic hip replacements, the plastic wears out slowly over time. As the plastic wears out, small particles of plastic debris are generated. This plastic debris triggers a response by your body which can lead to loosening of the implants over time…

Background

Total hip replacement surgery is among the most successful procedures performed by orthopedic surgeons. Patients with severe hip arthritis, hip osteonecrosis, or other complex hip problems, can have excellent outcomes when treated with hip replacement. Long-term studies have demonstrated excellent outcomes. About 90% of patients still have their hip replacement working well after 10 years, and about 80% of patients still have a functioning hip replacement after 20 years….

Pros

Ceramic hip replacements are an attractive new development in orthopedic surgery. The implants address some of the problems with traditional hip replacements. The newest ceramic hip replacement implants do not wear nearly as much as metal and plastic implants. Because the amount of wear of a hip replacement is related to loosening of the implant over time, wear reduction is among the most researched topics in orthopedics…

Cons

Ceramic hip replacement implants have functioned very well in laboratory studies and short-term human investigations. However, they are not perfect, and no one knows how well they work 10, 20, or 30 years after they have been implanted….

Someday we will know with certainty whether or not ceramic hip replacements are better than metal and plastic implants, but we do not know that now. Some patients, especially younger patients in their 40s and 50s, may elect to undergo a ceramic hip replacement with the hope that these implants will prove to be better…
